"True Colors"

You think you know someone
Like the back of your hand
But if you stare at it long enough
You’ll realize blemishes you’ve never seen before
We think because we’ve had it
In our lives for so long
That we know all of its nooks and crannies
Ignoring the fact we haven’t seen it from every angle
People have a way of revealing
Only what they want us to see
And we have a way of
Accepting only what we want to believe
And when true colors are revealed
We see how we’ve truly been aware all along
But instead of facing the music we cover it
With a lullaby
A sweet sweet song
If that’s my girl
And that’s my man
I’ve known her forever
My life long friend
While ignoring that daunting tune in the background
Of deceit, jealousy and let down
